Description:
David Anthony Harlem is a twenty one year old pile of mess. He was born on the 21st of June, destined to challenge the world's definition of 'functioning alcoholic'. When not enjoying the accommodations of the newest rehab center, he works at the animal shelter and in some under the table deals.

Appearance:
Tall and lanky, with slender chords of muscle defining his frame. His arms are tattooed in varying quality to hide old scars (across the road, not up the street) and track marks. He wears old band shirts, jeans (sometimes tailored, sometimes baggy) and the obligatory black converse.

Attitude:
David enjoys a good time with the right people. Despite numerous attempts by his family to get him sober, he continues to use. Out of respect for his band-mates, he makes some attempt at being discrete about drugs on tour, but is open about his chain-smoking and alcoholism. Fortunately for the good of their performance, David is a high-performing alcoholic and delivers a strong show regardless of how fucked up he is off whatever he's shot up or snorted. Despite the drugs, he's generally fun to be around and has a strong loyalty to his band-mates and crew.

History:
Born into a family known for alcoholic tendencies and musical talent, David grew up with little impression that he wanted anything but the life of a washed-up musician. He shared a father with his half siblings, Gideon and Molly. All three children had a knack early on for picking up new instruments and mastering their craft. While Gideon and Molly maintained healthy lifestyles (Molly went on to be a teacher, Gideon to the military) David saw one road and one only. He started in on drinking at 14 and was into drugs by 16. He idolized all the wrong men (noted musicians, all of them).

His family did their fair share of time trying to keep him out of trouble, but in the end, the issues are sometimes just in the DNA. David had a knack for finding trouble when he wasn't working or making music. Gideon spent a lot of time with David, more than any one else. They made much music together, occasionally shared a joint, and were more or less tight.

On a fateful stretch in rehab, when David was 16, Gideon, overseas in the military at the time, fell under attack with the rest of his troop, and was ultimately reported as MIA. David came out of rehab determined to honor his half brother's memory by music (and possibly join him in Hell, if he could only drink his way there). The years following in which the band slowly formed gave him something else to sink his teeth into, but his grief over his brother remains.

One man's tragedy was another man's treasure. David had not grown up in Pecatonica, and the town's smoky past wasn't one that haunted him. Like the rest of the gathering teenagers and college kids, he regarded the remains from the fire as a save haven for illegal substances, booze and music.

He slumped against what had once been a support beam. In the center of the party-space someone had crammed a barrel with logs and newspapers, and now a fire burned there, warm and glowing. Outside of the structure, a truck was parked, and a bassline could be heard booming through the old, charred walls.

David was content. He was two years too young to be drinking from the bottle he had in his hand. His arm was slung around the shoulders of the girl beside him, his body growing warm from her body. He turned his head to one side and kissed the girl's neck with a smirk.
