There has always been mystery in the world for as long as anyone can remember. It’s part of the world. People have told tales of creatures of such beauty – creatures who are not from the land but of the water. Merfolk and Water Children have been visiting the surface for years, coming to watch the humans, some even marrying humans and bearing half-breeds and staying on land.
The humans and the Underwater People have lived in harmony for years, enjoying one another’s company. However, like all things, evil is lurking just around the corner, and unfortunately, humans are to blame. Slavery is an evil thing, and like all evil things, it began to spread. Merfolk and Water Children were captured and sold to be used as slaves, never to see their beloved Kingdoms again. At first, the small portion of humans only captured a few Merfolk and Water Children but soon the numbers grew, worrying the rulers of the two underwater kingdoms. As the number of Underwater People disappearing grew, the anger and worry welling up inside the underwater rulers increased. When the disappearances had become too much, the rulers surfaced, surprising the humans. They demanded their brethren back and warned that if they weren’t handed back, terrible consequences would occur – the drowning of the human young, villages being destroyed and eating of the humans by sea creatures mainly.
Needless to say, the threat became reality. Villages weren’t destroyed but children were drowned and humans were eaten. In retaliation, humans captured more Underwater People. It’s been seven years and tensions are running high and war seems possible. Nevertheless, there will always be light within the darkness. Some humans, tired of the constant capturing of the beautiful and mysterious sea-dwellers, have decided to help them. They come at night and free as many as they can without arousing too much suspicion.
The question remains, however. When the time comes....
Whose side are you on?
